FAQ

In 2010 Excellon purchased from GE, the documentation, equipment, raw and in process material, and exclusive rights to build the wound field, fractional HP DC motors (5BC, 5BCC, 5BCD…) and the DC analog tachometer/generators (5BC, 5PY). This also includes the explosion proof lines of these motors and tachometers.

We are a small company and each unit is virtually built by hand, so our costs are higher. The good news is, we don’t plan on going anywhere. This is a tried and true technology that started here in Fort Wayne at GE. These are GE legacy products that we take great pride in.

As a legacy product line from GE, we build these products to the same and many times higher specifications than original designs. This is a very robust product line and many of these original motors and tachometer/generators have been in service for 30-40 years. With proper maintenance your customers can expect the same longevity and performance from these new units.

Most of the original GE systems used Thomas disc couplings now made by Rexnord (REGAL/REXNORD). We have heard folks having luck with Ruland’s beam couplings. Baldor uses a K-Coupling now made by OILITE.

Unfortunately, truck motors are not part of our GE legacy line. The “JB” OR “JBS” in a GE model number is the tell. You might try the following company. We are not sure that they can build new but specialize rebuilds of this line.

We have several options for new customers to get started:

  • We can issue a credit card invoice which would be an additional 3% service fee added to the invoice total.
  • You can pay by bank ACH. No additional fees
  • Send us a check by mail and we will ship when check is received.
  • You can apply for NET30 terms. Time frame for approval varies depending on how long it takes for references to reply.
